Dogs, cats and other small pets need a soft, and cozy bed just like we humans do. While they do seem happy lounging anywhere around the house, they must have a dedicated bed for getting a good rest. Here are five things you need to consider when picking the right bed for your dog.
Size
The size of your pet will determine the size of the bed. It is essential to choose the right bed size as it can make a massive difference in the pet's warmth and comfort. If the bed is too small, they may feel uncomfortable, and it could affect their posture as well. If your pet is still growing, we recommend that you size up.
To find the right size of bed for your pet, start with their weight.
- Small - Pets up to 40 lbs
- Medium - Pets up to 60 lbs
- Large - Pets up to 120 lbs
- Extra Large - Pets 120 lbs and up.
Also, measure your pet starting from the tip of the nose to the tail. This will give you the ideal length of the bed. Then measure the from their shoulder to the floor. This measurement will provide you with an idea of how wide the bed will be.
Bed Shape
When your pet walks around in a circle before they flop down into a ball, then a round shaped bed will be perfect for them.
If you pet sprawl on one side or sleeps flipped on their backs, then a rectangular bed is a perfect choice. Also, choose a rectangular bed when your pet shows signs of aging as curling up may no longer be comfortable for them.
If your pet does curls and sprawls out, then there's no harm in buying them two beds.
Where Your Pet Sleeps
Does your pet sleep indoors or outdoors? If your pet sleeps indoors, choose outdoor pet beds. These type of beds are weather-resistant, easy to clean, and more durable than indoor beds.
Fill Material
Pet beds come in a variety of fill materials to meet their specific needs. Below are the common fill materials.
Spun-Polyester Fill
These are soft, cozy and perfect for pets without special needs.
Memory Foam
Memory foam is best for pets with orthopedic problems as the foam provides them with extra support. It also helps to maintain the temperature and prevents overheating. Our pet bed features heavy-duty, breathable memory foam that is made to last for years.
Polystyrene Pellets with Cedar
This type of fill material is perfect for pets who like to dig in before settling down. Polystyrene beds are warming and shape contouring. The cedar chips are optional, but it smells great and an excellent insect repellant.
Design
Pet beds come in various colors and design, so you may as well choose a bed that matches your decorating taste. Feel free to match the bed, the color of your sofa, bedroom, or wherever you intend to place the bed. We have matching sofa covers to match with our luxury orthopedic pet beds.
