Sofa covers have hooks, loops, ties, or similar methods to keep it in place, but sometimes it needs a bit of help. Sofa covers have a way of bundling, sliding, making it look worn. Moreover, having to fix the couch whenever you leave can be very annoying. This is why we come up with a few tips to keep your sofa covers in place.
These tips we provided are simple Do It Yourself (DIY) ideas that you can easily do at home. You don't have to do all these tips. Use the one that works best to keep your covers in place.
Velcro Strips
This trick is an excellent method to keep the covers in place. Here's what you can do:
Remove the sofa cover from the cushion then fasten a Velcro to the cover. If the fabric is thin, it may be prone to slipping, that is why you need to add several pieces of Velcro in the middle. If the fabric is thick, then you'll only need one strap in the middle.
Line the arms at the back and bottom as these are the areas where it is prone to slipping, then apply Velcro to it.
Place the cover back on the sofa. If you added enough Velcro, the sofa cover should be secured and won't slip easily.
Wooden spoon
If it is a single piece of sofa cover, you require a more reliable method to prevent it from slipping. Here's where a wooden spoon can do the trick.
- Stretch the cover of your sofa and tuck the excess fabric at the back arms, so it aligns itself with the couch's structure.
- Using a wooden spoon, tuck in the bunched fabric as deep as it can.
- Lastly, tighten the drawstring around the sofa to secure the cover in place.
Cardboard tubes or old magazines
Anything that is rolled into tube-like cardboard or old magazines can keep the seat covers in place.
- Stretch the cover of your sofa and tuck the excess fabric at the back arms, so it aligns itself with the couch's structure.
- Roll up several old magazines and tie them into a tube with elastic bands. Don't use newspapers because the ink can mark the fabric.
- Press the tied magazines into creases to adjust the fabric into place.
- Keep pressing the tube down until the seams line up and are tightly secured.
